
David A. Schrader received his law degree cum laude from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1988, where he graduated in the top 8% of his class after completing law school in an accelerated program in only two years. While at Cardozo, David was a Jacob Burns Scholar; a member of the Cardozo Law Review and Moot Courts Boards; an award winning member of the Products Liability National Moot Court Team (placing second nationally); and a winner of the Cardozo Moot Court Advocacy Competition. At graduation David received a Jacob Burns Medal. David completed his undergraduate studies at The Johns Hopkins University, where he earned a B.A. in biology, emphasizing in cell and molecular biology and biochemistry. While at Hopkins, David was an award winning member of the Parliamentary Debate Team and participated in the national and world championships (placing 17th in the World). David subsequently completed a joint degree program at the Kelley School of Business, Indiana University and the Thunderbird School of Global Management, where he received, respectively, an MBA and an MS in Global Management. As part of his business studies, David participated in an intensive study abroad program in Beijing, China and completed extensive training in cross-cultural negotiation and communication skills. David was also the team captain for the 4th place finishing team (out of 136 teams) in the Sustainable Innovation Competition; and the team captain for the 2nd place finishing team in the TMCA Thunderbird Case Competition. David also participated in the John Molson Business Case Competition at Concordia University in Montreal Canada. During business school, David received many additional honors, including the Academic Excellence Scholarship, induction into the Sustainable Innovation Champions Circle, the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and the Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society. David graduated from Thunderbird with distinction with a cumulative 3.925 GPA. David is currently furthering his education through his current enrollment in an LLM Degree Program in Financial Services Law at New York Law School.
Upon graduation from law school, David joined the Wall Street law firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson, where he was involved in complex business and securities litigation. After leaving Fried, Frank in 1990, David joined the firm of Wolff & Samson, where he was an associate until 1995 handling complex business and securities matters. After leaving Wolff & Samson in 1995, David joined the firm or Alpert & Levy, a business law boutique. David became the youngest named partner at Alpert & Levy in 1996. In July 2001, David co-founded the firm of Schrader & Schoenberg, LLP to further tailor the direction of his legal practice to the complex nature of his clientele's legal needs, including the further expansion of his practice in the areas of complex litigation, broker-dealer regulation, securities regulation and mergers and acquisition.
In the area of broker-dealer regulation, David's experience includes extensive practice in the areas of securities arbitrations (having defended approximately 100 customer arbitrations and additionally handled dozens of industry disputes); the representation of broker-dealers and associated persons in connection with numerous FINRA regulatory matters (including Rule 8210 inquiries, Wells Submissions and disciplinary actions); SEC regulatory inquires, Wells Submissions and regulatory actions; and the formation and licensing of broker-dealers (including Form BD amendments) under Rule 1017. In addition to his law firm experience, David has held Series 7 and Series 24 securities licenses. During the period of March 2000 through July 2001, David acted as general counsel for Laconia Capital Corporation, a licensed broker-dealer.
David has holds several certifications, including an MBA Certificate in Management from Tulane University, Freeman School of Business; Chief Sustainability Officer Certification; Senior Business Manager and Financial Manager Certifications from the State University of New Jersey, Rutgers Skills Certification Center; Mediator Training Certification from the Kukin Program for Conflict Resolution at Cardozo Law School. David has also lectured for the Business Law Section of the American Bar Association and authored a chapter on partnership law entitled "The Partnership Relation and the Rights and Obligations of Partners Inter Se," included in the September 1995 edition of Doing Business in the United States, published by Matthew Bender.
David is a member of the New York and New Jersey Bars, and is admitted to practice in the federal courts of New Jersey, the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Second and Third Circuit Courts of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court. He has extensive experience in the federal and state courts of both New York and New Jersey, as well as in arbitration forums before FINRA and the American Arbitration Association. David is also a member of Britannia Lodge, FAAM.
